| "The teacher's task is no small or easy one! S/He has to prepare a huge amount of knowledge to satisfy the child's mental hunger, and s/he is not, like the ordinary teacher, limited by a syllabus" Maria Montessori OUR PHILOSOPHY Dr. Maria Montessori was the founder of Montessori Education. This is an educational philosophy founded on the firm belief that a child learns best within a social environment reinforces and promotes each individual's unique development pattern. Montessori Education promotes a child's total development as it encourages all children to realize their full potential without pressure or competition. Children are free to challenge themselves at their own pace. Therefore, Montessori education recognizes the individual potential in every child and guides each child to fully discover that potential. THE MONTESSORI METHOD The Montessori Method of education was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. She believed that the goal of early childhood education should focus upon cultivating his/her own natural desire to learn and absorb. A Montessori classroom is a specially designed “prepared environment” in which this concept is apparent and, by intent, encompasses the mental, physical, social and aesthetic development of a child in a space that is void of irrelevance and inflexibility. During the hours a child spends in a Montessori classroom, the adult’s direction (teaching) and the materials used, are focused on 5 main areas, some of which are exclusive to the Montessori Method of education. The Montessori curriculum is very broad based and covers traditional and uniquely Montessori subjects as given below. We intend to present subject matter from all given topics as explained: The Exercises of Practical Life
Each of the above areas will be presented in a simple format, even to the youngest child, and presentations will grow in complexity as the child matures within the environment. |
